Fear God, Not The World
Exodus 14:10 — When Pharaoh drew near, the people of Israel lifted up their eyes, and behold, the Egyptians were marching after them, and they feared greatly. And the people of Israel cried out to the LORD.
Throughout the book of Exodus, the LORD was teaching the Israelites to fear Him over any other nation or oppressor. He put His power on display by sending plagues to the Egyptians who were persecuting them and freeing them from hundreds of years of slavery.
Despite all that God had done to ease their minds, when the Israelites saw the Egyptians pursuing them in chariots, the people of Israel were filled with dread once again. They feared for their lives to the point that they wished they had never been freed from slavery in the first place (Exodus 14:11-12).
How often do we respond just like the Israelites? Time and time again, God delivers us from bad people and bad situations in our lives. Yet each time a new hardship appears at our doorstep, we cower in fear. We pray for immediate comfort instead of facing the unknown boldly, knowing that our God will deliver—just as He always does.
What the Israelites didn’t know was that God had another miracle waiting for them. When it looked like all hope was lost and all of God’s efforts would be for nothing, He parted the Red Sea and rescued them from their enemies (Exodus 14:15-29).
When you feel like life is closing in on you and you have nowhere to turn, turn to the One who parted the Red Sea for His people and brought them safely to the other side.
